Hip-Hop has been around for well over 30 years now. We have doctors, lawyers, teachers and preachers who are hip-hop heads. We have generations who grew up on nuthin but hip-hop. I am a hip-hop head, a grown-up hip-hop head, but a hip-hop head all the same. A professional hip-hop junkie and I am also a Christian, who has given his life to Christ and is thankful God gave his only Son, so my sins are forgiven and I may have eternal life. Like Deitrick Haddon, I so thankful God still hears a sinner’s prayer.

You ever doubt yourself because of your shortcomings? This is a common thing. Are you constantly reliving the mistakes of your past and preventing yourself from success in the future? Maybe you have a limited education, you have a jail record, your family is poor, and people have messed over you all your life? Now that the economy is slow and everything you used to do as a side hustle has dried up it hard to eat these days.

Whatever has held you back in the past doesn’t have to limit where you go from this point on. The good news is you can move past the scars of yesterday. God never consults your past to determine your future. So stop looking at where you have been and start looking at where you are going. Stop advertising your pain. Stop concentrating on your short comings. There isn’t a person walking God’s green Earth that doesn’t have some sort of limitations.

We all have handicaps so to speak one way or another. Some are financial, some are emotional or mental, and some are physical. But the bottom line is we all have short comings. Trust His power and hold on. He will give you the strength to keep from falling - Isaiah 40:31.

that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed.

The smart person builds on their strengths and works with what they have instead of letting their weaker aspects prevent them from reaching their goals. A questionable background, a jail record, a limited education and being born on the wrong side of the tracks shouldn’t be an excuse from charting your own course.

Hip Hop’s presence in popular culture has increased dramatically since its inception in the 1970s. In recent years, the global media has caught on, and there are now multiple outlets dedicated to reporting on Hip-Hop culture and its music. As Hip Hop journalism grows, there becomes a growing need for quality control. With that mission in mind, the Hip Hop Journalism Association (HHJA) was formed. This newly formed amalgamation aims to ensure that those who write and report on Hip Hop music and culture maintain integrity and accuracy within their writings.

With a constantly growing market of magazines and websites, blogs and books about hip hop culture, it is inevitable that more and more writers will find themselves immersed in Hip Hop journalism. Therefore, HHJA is a subscription-based organization open to journalists, students and media professionals across the United States, as well as overseas. HHJA welcomes individuals from minor and major press outlets, and offers discounted fees for students. The benefits of joining HHJA are innumerable and of paramount importance. Those hoping to secure a position in this aspect of media, as well as those already firmly situated, will find opportunities for advancement through HHJA. The Association allows members to network freely and positively with other journalists from all over the country, plus exclusive access to jobs, scholarship opportunities and intern opportunities.

HHJA has garnered attention from several poignant personalities within Hip Hop journalism who have now come together to make up the organizing committee. I have to be honest, I wanted to dislike Mars Ill when I initially found out they were Christian. I feared the hypocritical message I associate with some "Christian" artists (Creed…come on.) I feared watered down hip hop as a medium for a message I don't feel. Not that the message is necessarily bad, it's just not my thing. Fortunately Mars Ill is undeniably good Hip Hop. Dust's beats are the stuff classic hip hop is made of…choice samples, strong melodies and head nodding beats. ManChild's flow, voice and lyrics are so distinctive there is no comparison to another rapper coming. As a whole they exhibit patient songwriting and interdependence; truly a group dynamicPro-Pain is their third album, or "the completion to [their] hat trick," as manChild so accurately announces. The first "single" (?!) off the album is "More." The interesting "more vs. less" theme is shared with fellow Christian hiphopper Ahmad from 4th Avenue Jones. The real treat though is the haunting, yet beautiful, vocal display by fellow Atlanta resident Anthony David. "Change Your Ways" is classic hip hop sound; a collage of scratches for an introduction and epilogue and the Vibrations "There's Love In Them There Hill's" sampled for the chorus. The strong and heartfelt songwriting continues throughout with manChild confessing to his growth as a man ("Stand Back"), a Christian ("When Heaven Scrapes") and an artist ("Sound Off"). Never overwhelming but always impressing Mars Ill make tastefully good music once again.

Its fast and furious and the game starts and ends in the streets. Inner City Streetball Vol 1 DVD is brought to you by the cats who have been serving the NYC area that straight hip hop with no chaser on their video show GhettoNomics for 10 years strong. Now this is not ya regular streetball mixtape by any stretch of the imagination. The DVD is about 45 minutes long but only 30 minutes of it is streetball. The crew from GhettoNomics have blended what you would expect from a streetball DVD with madd interviews and exclusive freestyles from like lyrical wordsmiths such as Jay Z, Black Thought of The Roots, Prodigy of Mobb Deep. Not to mention an off the hook interview with Old Dirty, one of the original members of The Legendary Wu tang Clan, may he rest in peace.
Now for all you streetball heads if ya yearnin’ for some sick dunks and crazy crossovers InnerCity Streetball Vol 1 has got what ya need. Filmed mostly in the BX the DVD features a few And1 Ballers like the Pharmicist, Shane and High Octane as well a small appearances by Headache, AO and Helicopter. For Pharmacist fans this is a must have as he gives you a ghetto pass through his hood, talks about his childhood, how he got his nickname and how he comes up with some of the moves he created like the Y2K and the headbanger. Ya know they had to show you madd footage of The Pharmicist straight embarrassing fools on the court.
There are also a must see interview with High Octane talking about how And1 changed his life and features many of his sick dunks and highlights as well. While you can tell the budget to create the DVD was the biggest, if ya love dope lyrics and crazy crossovers this DVD makes a great addition to ya collection.
It could have been a little longer but Vol 2, which I’m told is already in pre production at press time, promises to take it to another level.

(Atlanta, Ga- June 24, 2005)- Mars ILL’s latest endeavor, PRO PAIN, is an offering that is as diverse as it is consistent in its superior delivery. After building a base that started with local club dates, the group pressed limited edition vinyl and embarked on national tours to support their first and second releases, Raw Material and Backbreakanomics, respectively. On July 19th, PRO PAIN, their third full-length release, remains on Mars ILL’s course of continued evolution.
The framework of Mars Ill, the two-piece Atlanta collective comprised of Manchild (emcee) and Dust (DJ) may seem deviant of others in the circuit but the results achieved are in a class of their own. Razor sharp rhymes interact with street-smart lyrics, turntable scratches and free flowing hip-hop rhythms. There is a hearty dose of sweat-stained reality derived from years of slugging it out on the Atlanta scene.
“Atlanta is very much responsible for who we are as artists and people, from weekly open mics to working with a community of artists over the years,” explains Manchild. “This one’s about showing the world who we are as artists and taking it to the next level, raising it up one more notch then we were before. Mars Ill digs deep on PRO PAIN, laying out personal struggles and setbacks while providing a realistic hope Having that “no holds barred” mentality sets the pair and assigns an instant credibility and relate-ability to the tracks on PRO PAIN. Sonically, the album is marked by progressive pop prodding, powerful production and a delicate balance between underground acceptance and accessibility. A fusion of grassroots beat box experimentation coasts neck and neck with slick lyrical statements sure to captivate longtime followers and capture new observers.
New tracks that up the ante include “When Heaven Scrapes,” an entrancing neo-soul shuffle, and “Effortless,” a poetically charged wake up call to stop complaining about catastrophes and how to cut them down to a more manageable stature. “Sound Off” is equally as potent, signaling a call to arms for people to plug into their communities and increase fellowship.
